Hidden London Euston The Lost Tunnels tour

Hidden London Euston The Lost Tunnels tour.

I’ve been a bit lax with updates here recently haven’t I, well now I’m back.

In January 2022 I stumbled across the London Transport Hidden London website. I should say that I’m not a spotter or a train geek but I’ve always found the London Underground fascinating. It’s a rabbit warren of tunnels both in and out of use under London that you’d never know were there. To find out that you can visit some hooked me in. The tours are popular and sell out pretty quick but I got myself on the Euston Lost Tunnels variety.

There were about 10 or so on the tour and we all gathered at the meeting point at Euston Square. The guides give out visitor badges and give you an introductory talk. Then walk you overground to Euston mainline station. The route took us passed an old Ox blood tiled Leslie Green station on Drummond Street, but I think it’s days are numbered sadly. When you get to Euston you go down to one of the tube platforms, through a nondescript door and then you step back in time. Back in time because there are lots of original 60’s film posters still up on the walls. Pretty much untouched since they were pasted up 60 years ago.

You get to see the service tunnels, the film posters, disused lift shafts, a “Hobbit Door” and to look down on a lower platform through a ventilation grille as trains pass by. I loved it so much I’ve done other tours since which will make future posts…
